A Bit of History. Before the establishment of Our Lady of Mercy (former name of Ina ng Awa Parish) in 1953, masses were held inside the New Bilibid Prison Compound.
As the inmate population in NBP increased, the authorities decided to build a chapel. The first Mass was celebrated by Cardinal Rufino Santos. Later, on January 10, 1994, Cardinal Jaime Sin officially established Ina ng Awa as a parish.
